During our family discussion time on Shabbat, I mentioned the Jewish Restrictions on Sabbath (Melachah). We read a few examples and one that stood out was Not Burning because "In general, any use of electricity violates the spirit of the Sabbath, since it involves extracting energy from nature." I proceeded to share that though it is difficult to keep all traditional man-made commands, the instructions of YHWH in the Torah are not burdensome, but a delightful way to show our love for him. Then, shortly later we heard thunder and saw lightning in the distance. Next, my 9 year old asked (on the Sabbath,):
"Isn't Lightning Electricity?"
