Earlier this month, we went to the annual elementary school concert. As we waited in the hallway, my 5 year old son befriended a 5th grade peer from his older brother's class. As my little bear was striking up a conversation, he mentioned his English name and his Hebrew name. Then he proceeded to ask, "What's your Hebrew name?" It was such an innocent question and I gently told my son that not everyone chooses a Hebrew name.
As we are experiencing more Jewish tradition and participating in the local synagogue, we chose names with meanings that are similar to their English names and/or character. This was a very special decision and was incorporated in the Consecration Ceremony last September. This was our family commitment to uphold teachings and principles in Torah for our children. There are incredible values that can be extracted throughout the Jewish traditions and Biblical examples. I'm truly enjoying this journey!
